Religion is religion is religion, and that's what it will go for unless you can get George Washington to tell me different.

No, when this government was formed Religion was Christianity, that is what the founding fathers spoke of it as.
Nothing else. So the Mosque should not be allowed to be built here at all!

Re: Debate Thread
Agreed. Oh, and someone said that all muslims where extremesists, or they all denounced America or something like that, so I'm clearing something up. ALL Religions have extremists! What about Christianity, they have the KKK. Every religion has members that take it too far. Islam is not an exception. They just did one of the worst things, that most people will remember: Taking down the the twin towers.

Re: Debate Thread
KKK is denounced by every large Christian group. Terrorism is almost encouraged in Islam.
Also I found this.
DON'T TLDR THAT.
Also I found this.
- Spoiler:
- We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honour-kill.
DON'T TLDR THAT.

Wait! Leaving the forum or the thread? Maybe I should have allowed the Honored Member discuss about the thread first...Gecko wrote:So, I told myself I wouldn't post here, but that's to much. It's in the Muslim Koran, if someone is not a Muslim you are COMMANDED to kill them. If someone, even your own son, converts from being Muslim, you are COMMANDED to kill them. It's that straight forward.TheMissingPiece wrote:Fail.
Those particular people are called "extremists". They just happen to be Muslim.
Arlight, now that I've said that, I think this whole topic is a bad idea. I'm leaving.

Alrighty, I can tell I've mostly been beaten, and I have to agree with what most of Packs said.
Not near Ground Zero, fr sure, but what about every where else? It still doesn't excuse the fact that Americans protest Islamic buildings from Staten Island to Wisconsin, to California.
"Terrorism is almost encouraged in Islam."
No, it's encouraged by people like Bin Laden. Not the religion. Not all Muslims, or even most Muslims are extremists. It's only very few who are radicals.
@T_C: OMFG. That's just incorrect and morally wrong. Who has been drilling this into your little head? The first amendment meant all religion, not Christianity.

But at any rate. I thoguht of some new macanics for the thread to use.
-Everyoen signs up to a side of the arrangement
-Both sides make their opening Platform (One large post about their thoughts of the subject before the debate)
-The sides do the actual debating and discussion about it
-After a few days the discussion will stop, and both side will post a closing platform about what they think now.
-Finally, a pole will be made for everyone (even those who do not debate in the thread) will be made, and the pole would decide who 'wins'.
Notes: During the discussion, it is ok for people to start on one side then realize they belong on the other and switch.
Eh?

Cool! I vote yes.
Edit: We should probably delete this thread and put a new one under forum games.

I leave for one day and THIS happens?
Yes, we should make this more organized. That way it's not just ten people on ten different tangents.

Maybe not in the traditional sense, but some people like to give other people pieces of their mind.
Plus, I can't think of anywhere else it should go.

Re: Debate Thread
If we do it like this, it should go in discussion. If it's organized into 2 teams and presented like a court argument, I feel like it's more of a game. Put it wherever you want.Hazard with a Glove wrote:Debate=Discussion, so Community Discussion?

Re: Debate Thread
I think there should be "teams" to each side, and each side can say anything they want to one day, then the next day is the other teams turn, that way it isn't crazy and unintelligent looking.

Less controversy? Do you realize BA has had an activity jump since this thread started? It's interesting to everybody, and so it works.

As long as we all remember that whatever disagreements we may come upon in the course of these discussions, we're still all FOLs and MOCers who share a passion for Legos, it should be fun.

Everyone against it who is calling it a Mosque, you are idiots.
IT'S NOT A MOSQUE. It's a 13-story community center that happens to have a small mosque on one of the floors. That's it.
I think that should sum up my argument.

Re: Debate Thread
So here are some basic rules I thought up.
There are 2 teams of 3 people each. Each team will present an opening statement, 3 arguments, and a closing statement.
When the first statement is presented (by the team captain), the other team will have 24 hours to comment on it, and the presenting team will answer their comments. This is the debate part of it. After that 24 hour period, it is the other team's responsibility to present their opening statement. Once the opening statements are finished, each team member will present one argument at a time, with a 24 hour period of debate, until all of the arguments have been presented. Next, we'll make a poll to decide who wins, and leave that open for awhile. The whole process will take 1-2 weeks to complete.
